APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MAINTAINING UNIFORM FILL LEVELS IN A PACKAGING MACHINE

A method and apparatus for maintaining a uniform product level within a package tube formed by a form-fill-seal packaging machine in which a web of packaging material is formed into a vertically-oriented tube structure. The rate of package formation and the level of product within said tube structure is determined by the speed of a drive motor. The level of product within the tube structure is measured without directly contacting the product inside. A control signal is generated in response to the level of product measured. The speed of the drive motor is modified in accordance with the control signal to change the rate of package formation and the level of product within the tube structure.
