A vehicle transmission shifter mechanism having a shift lever frame (26) including a roller detent (64), a shift lever (22) shiftable to a plurality of different shift positions and a feel positioner (24) for providing a feel to a vehicle operator for establishing each of the shift positions is provided with an improvement, the improvement being a leaf spring (62) configured in a U-shaped arrangement at one end (90) to quick connect into a pair of spaced apertures (82, 84) in a plate (60) on the shift lever (22), and configured at the other end (114) with opposing fingers (118, 119) to snappingly quick connect to a roller (66) for rollingly engage the roller detent (64). The roller (66) is biased against the roller detent (64) which generates reactive forces on the one end (90) of the leaf spring (62) causing the one end (90) to be securely retained in the spaced apertures (82, 84) in the plate (60) and causing the roller (66) to be securely retained in the opposing fingers (118, 119) on the other end (114).
