Prodn. of a silica glass multi-connector with several parallel channels involves subjecting two adjoining embossed plates to densification heat treatment at 1300-1450<0> C for 1-3 hrs. in a vacuum or a helium atmos., the embossed plates being formed by: (a) preparing a slip contg. at least 50 wt.% synthetic silica of specific surface at least 40 sq.m/g. and as additive, at least 2 wt.% ammonium (hydrogen) fluoride or more than 0.1 mol/l. hydrofluoric acid; (b) pouring the slip into plate-forming moulds; (c) setting at ambient temp. until contraction of the resulting gel plates has terminated; (d) applying imprints in the form of parallel U- or V-grooves to the free surface of the plates; and (e) drying the embossed plates for at least 8 hrs. at max. 60<0> C in an air stream. Also claimed is a multi-connector made by the above process.
