The invention relates to a method for installing the sensor wire to be used in connection with applying an ice detecting method and device, based on propagation of ultrasound in a metal wire, particularly in aircraft or the like. The sensor wire (1) is installed, for the necessary length thereof, in a groove (2) or the like in connection with the surface (3) on which the ice is to be detected. The groove or the like provides mechanical side support and aerodynamic form support for the wire sensor (1).
