The invention relates to a method of producing particleboards using a continuously operating press having endless steel bands which transfer the pressure of the press, are guided via drive rollers and deflecting rollers around a press ram and a press table and are supported via press cylinder-piston arrangements with an adjustable press nip against press heating plates of rolling support elements, the press heating plates at the top and bottom in the press nip distance being longitudinally adjustable with respect to one another by means of hydraulic press cylinders, and press table and press ram comprising a plurality of individual bars which are connected to one another in an elastic and vertically adjustable manner for a longitudinal bending deformation of the press heating plates. In order to increase the longitudinal deformation gradient of the press heating plates, the invention consists in the fact that the upper and lower press heating plates are together deformed longitudinally to change the press nip, so that as a result a greater longitudinal deformation gradient can be set from the sum of ¢tan .alpha. + tan .beta.!.
