摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the use of a directional antenna for adaptively communicating on a wireless mesh network. SOLUTION: The method of using the directional antennas to adaptively communicate in the wireless mesh network is a method wherein a plurality of infrastructure components adaptively make communication with each other in a wireless mesh network environment including a plurality of the infrastructure components. Each infrastructure component includes an omnidirectional antenna and one or more directional antennas (e.g., electronically steered phased array antennas) that can be used to communicate with the other infrastructure component and wireless devices. The directional antennas can utilize one or more directional beams that can be directed towards an infrastructure component or a wireless device to communicate with the infrastructure component or the wireless device. The infrastructure components can adaptively communicate with the same destination through different intermediary infrastructure components. Since the signal strength of a directional beam can be greater than that of an omnidirectional antenna of the same gain, the infrastructure components can be separated by greater distances.
