PURPOSE: A WEP(Wired Equivalent Privacy) key generating method in a system without an input device and an apparatus appropriate for the same are provided to maintain security in the system. CONSTITUTION: According to the WEP key generating method in a network environment including a host system transmitting an encrypted signal and a client system receiving the transmitted signal from the host system and decoding the received signal using WEP key set in the host system, a serial number in the host system is read. A state value of a dip switch installed in the host system is read. The serial number and the state value are assembled. And WEP key of the wireless LAN environment is generated using the assembled value(S502).
