<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge a color reproduction region as compared with the prior art by enabling reduction of a decrease of coloring characteristics at the time of overlap recording. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: a memory means which stores N mask patterns different from each other and used for recording of N times in multi-pass recording; a recording pattern generating means which generates N recording patterns on the basis of both image data of each recording color component and the N mask patterns stored by the memory means; a classifying means which classifies the N recording patterns of respective recording color components to at least two luminance groups on the basis of luminances of the recording color components; an assigning means which divides recording element arrays for each recording color component to M, assigns the recording patterns of a low-luminance group to N divided arrays which record precedently to a recording medium, and assigns the recording patterns of a high-luminance group to N divided arrays which record delayingly to the recording medium; and a recording control means which sequentially conveys the recording medium in a sub scan direction by 1/M of a recordable width through one scanning motion of the recording element arrays every time recording is carried out by scanning driving the recording head. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
