An image reading apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to automatically determine whether a first scan unit and a second scan unit are normally operated, and inform a user of the determination result. A first scan unit(130) and a second scan unit(140) respectively scan a first side and a second side of a transferred document. A duplex route(163b) guides the document. In a state when the first side and the second side are turned over, the scanned document re-enters in the first scan unit and the second scan unit. A controller compares image information about the first and second sides of the document scanned in the first scan unit with image information about the first and second sides of the document scanned in the second scan unit. |
