A display device and a controlling method thereof are provided to offer an area image of the same type as a division type of a display panel, thereby preventing a frame rate from being deteriorated when the image is displayed on a large-screen display panel. A display panel(190) is divided into plural panel areas. A storage unit(140) stores frame images consisting of plural area images. A driving unit(180) controls the display panel, so that the frame images are displayed on the display panel. A reading unit reads portions of one of the stored area images and portions of another area image, and applies the read portions to the driving unit, so that the applied portions are displayed on a particular panel area of the display panel. The display panel is divided into a first panel area, a second panel area, and a third panel area in horizontal direction. |
