<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a SIL (solid immersion lens) capable of suppressing damages even when collision occurs with an object irradiated with light such as a data recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The SIL includes a spherical part, a cone-shaped part 22, and a tip part 23, and a curved surface 2Er is formed in an edge part between the cone-shaped part 22 and the tip part 23. Especially, setting the curved surface 2Er having a relatively large curvature on a relative traveling direction approaching side with a data recording medium reduces stress concentration during collision, thereby preventing or suppressing damaging of the surface of the data recording medium.
