An electronic device according to the present invention comprises: a low power sensor to detect a motion of an object; a camera to recognize an operation of the object by being activated if the motion of the object is detected from the low power sensor; and an operation unit to perform a predetermined operation if the operation of the object recognized from the camera satisfies a predetermined condition. The power consumption of the low power sensor is lower than the power consumption of the camera. Therefore, provided is the electronic device capable of supplying power to the camera when the low power sensor detects the motion only by controlling the power of the camera by using the low power sensor, and an operation method of the electronic device according to motion detection.
