The present invention relates to a shock absorber, capable of enhancing responsiveness and operational performance by implementing sufficient damping force and a smooth stopping function. The shock absorber including a cylinder filled with a fluid, a piston rod having one end positioned within the cylinder and the other end coupled to a vehicle body though an upper end of the cylinder, and a piston valve dividing the interior of the cylinder into a tensile chamber and a compressive chamber in a state in which the piston valve is connected to one end of the piston rod, comprises: a lower free piston movably installed within the compressive chamber with the piston rod penetrating therethrough, to divide the compressive chamber into an oil chamber and a lower gas chamber; and an upper free piston movably installed within the tensile chamber with the piston rod penetrating therethrough, to divide the tensile chamber into a lower oil chamber and an upper gas chamber. |
