A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a gate line on the first substrate, a thin film transistor on the first substrate and connected to the gate line, a first electrode and a second electrode on the first substrate, an insulating layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, a second substrate facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate and including a liquid crystal molecule. One of the first electrode and the second electrode includes a plurality of branch electrodes extending in an extension direction parallel to the gate line, and the other one of the first electrode and the second electrode has a planar shape. The liquid crystal molecule of the liquid crystal layer has negative dielectric anisotropy.

a first substrate, a gate line on the first substrate, a thin film transistor disposed on the first substrate, connected to the gate line, a first electrode and a second electrode on the first substrate, an insulating layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, a second substrate facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate, the liquid crystal layer comprising a liquid crystal molecule, wherein one of the first electrode and the second electrode includes a plurality of branch electrodes, and the other one of the first electrode and the second electrode has a planar shape, the plurality of the branch electrodes extend in an extension direction parallel to the gate line, and the liquid crystal molecule of the liquid crystal layer has negative dielectric anisotropy.
