1,017,499. Magnetic transducing heads. AMPEX CORPORATION. June 3, 1964 [Sept. 13, 1963], No. 23050/64. Heading GR5. [Also in Division B3] A magnetic erase head comprises two C- shaped ferrite members 14 and 16 with two ferrite bars 12 and 14 disposed between them with the interposition of copper spacers 17 which define the erase gaps, the transverse spacing (i.e. the track spacing) being determined by insulating end plates 30 and 32 which are provided with positioning surfaces. The bars 12 and 14 are surrounded by coils 26 and 28, the leads to which pass through apertures in end plate 30 which acts as a terminal board. The above components are assembled on a base 47 and potted in a plastic material, and a copper shield is arranged round three sides of the assembly. The positioning plate 32 and part of the members 14, 16 and 47 are removed by a machining operation to provide a surface adapted to co-operate with a magnetic tape or other storage medium. |
