摘要 993, 359. Measuring torque electrically. DAYSTROM Inc. April 12, 1962 [May 9, 1961], No. 14245/62. Headings G1N and G1Q. [Also in Divisions G4 and H2] Apparatus for time-integrating a primary force, comprising a transducer which converts the force to a direct, current which drives a motor in a direction corresponding to the direction of the force, which motor rotates a shaft driving a D.C. generator, the output of which is applied to the transducer to balance the force; includes a feedback path through a surge capacitor through which the direct current can operate to create a temporary balance during the delay in starting of the motor. The shaft rotations are counted to give the integral. In the watt-hour meter shown the force is a torque on a shaft 11 produced by an electrodynamometer 10. A coil 29 fixed to the shaft is positioned between the poles of a permanent magnet 31 which also has an electro-magnetic winding 33. An oscillator in an amplifier 37 applies a high frequency A.C. current to the winding 33. When a torque is applied, the coil 29 is deflected and an A.C. current of magnitude and phase proportional to the magnitude and direction of the deflection is supplied via the lines 35, 36 to the amplifier 37. A discriminator 38 detects the direction of phase change and produces a steady D.C. output on one of two lines in accordance with this direction. The output is amplified at 41 and used to energize one or other of two power relays 42, 43 to open the corresponding switch 47 or 48. This causes a phase change in the A.C. current, produced by a source 52, in one of a pair of field coils 54, 56 of a motor 13 thus setting it in rotation in one direction or the other. The drive shaft is connected through mechanical links 14 to a tachometer generator 16 and to a mechanical or electrical counter 17. A resistor 61 and a thermistor 62 ensure that the tachometer is of constant resistance. The output of the tachometer is fed back to the coil 29 through wires 35, 36 to provide a returning torque to the coil. As this return torque will be slow in acting due to the inertia of the motor, the output of the discriminator is tapped and fed back through a blocking capacitor 39 through which a surge of current can act to provide a temporary balance while the motor is starting. Specification 754,130 is referred to.
