A sound absorbing gas turbine exhaust duct has thin porous or permeable vanes of sheet material located in a longitudinally curved portion of the duct to form at least two passages. A sound absorbing exhaust duct 13 of a gas turbine 10 has curved vanes 15 forming passages 16. The vane material may be thin micro-porous stainless steel made by powder metallurgy or by felting, sintering and rolling fine steel fibres. Thin sheet metal 17 with closely spaced holes 18 and a backing plate 20 with holes 22, Fig. 4, may be used. Sheet 17 is smooth and forms the concave surface of the vane. Quantitative values of flow resistance of the vanes 15 are given. |
