An orally administrable preparation for the treatment of pancreatitis comprises whole fresh pig's pancreas which has been dried at a low temperature, and converted into suitable administrable form by a process which does not remove the liquid content. The preferred process is freeze drying, or the pancreas may be dried in vacuo at a temperature not exceeding 3‹C. The pancreas is preferably ground with 30 to 100% of its weight of iced water before subjecting to freeze drying. Other materials which may be present are flavouring, lactose. and ascorbic acid. The preparation may take the form of granules, tablets or pills, and may be enterically coated. |
