PURPOSE:To maintain the detecting accuracy of a density detecting means for detecting the density of a toner image by properly cleaning the density detecting means. CONSTITUTION:The density detecting means 9M is fixed on a holding member 33 which is disposed along an image carrier. The density detecting means 9M is provided with a patch detecting sensor covered with a cover 30 having sensor windows 31 and 32, and detects the density of a test patch on the image carrier with measuring light transmitted through the sensor windows 31 and 32 and reflected light. Meanwhile, a cleaning member 20 is provided with a sliding member 22 stuck to a moving base 21, and connected to a driving mechanism consisting of a motor 51, a pulley 52, and a wire 55, etc., so as to be able to move in directions shown by arrows K1 and K2. By moving the cleaning member 20 at a retreat position S2 to an actuation position S1, the member 22 wipes out harmful toner adhering to the sensor windows 31 and 32. |
