1,153,243. Grippers for lifting bricks from a stack. W. A. M. POMPE. 29 March, 1967 [29 March, 1966], No.14403/67. Heading B8H. A grab for lifting spaced bricks from a stack a layer at a time comprises internal gripping elements such as 3, 4, 6, 7 and peripheral gripping elements such as 5, 5a. The grab is lowered on to a stack of bricks 1, 2, and those grippers which abut bricks such as 3, 4, move vertically upwards through a plate 8. The remaining grippers, e.g. 5, 6, 7, occupy the spaces around and between the bricks. The peripheral grippers are moved inwards and the internal grippers are moved apart by sliding strips 11, 12, 17, 18, which bear on forked ends 10, thus gripping the bricks. The strips 11, 12, 17, 18 are moved by ram operated wedges 15. The peripheral grippers also may be vertically movable.
