1,227,026. Hydrodynamic bearing. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 28 March, 1968 [31 March, 1967], No. 14986/68. Heading F2A. A bearing for radial and axial loads has a shaft 1 rotating in a blind bore 4 of a stationary bearing member 5, annular helical grooves 2 being provided on either of the cylindrical bearing surfaces for urging lubricant towards a pressure chamber 6 formed between the end faces of the shaft and bore. Abutment means are provided between the shaft and bore so that there is point contact between the two members when the shaft is at rest. A duct 12 is provided for return of lubricant from the chamber to the end of the helical groove remote from the chamber. The opening of the duct into the chamber is such that it is closed when the shaft is at rest but is uncovered when the shaft rotates and pressure is built up in the chamber resulting in axial displacement of the bearing members.
|
