978,136. Woven fabric for belting. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Oct. 31, 1962 [Dec. 18, 1961], No. 41141/62. Heading D1K. [Also in Division B2] A belting fabric consists of straight weft yarns 11 lying above and below straight warp yarns 10, and pairs of binder warp yarns 12, 13 which cross each other first above the centre line of the yarns 10 (as shown at 14) and then below the centre line; the spacing of the yarns 10 is such that one binder warp yarn can pass between them, but two cannot. When abnormal tension is applied to the belt, the binder warp yarns try to straighten, causing the crossing points 14 to jam between the yarns 10. The fabric may be woven from nylon, polyester, rayon, cotton, hemp, jute, flax, glass, or wire. The fabric is coated with natural or synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chloride (see Division B2). |
