In a diaphragm type flow control valve of the kind having a substantially straight-through bore and a seating formed by a conical opening extending from one side of the casing and running tangentially into the bore, the diaphragm, as shown, has a beaded peripheral flange, a conical portion 12 and a hemispherical apex 13. Two diametrically opposed ribs extend radially along the inner face of the conical portion, the ribs being of trapezoidal cross-section and tapering along their length to a maximum height and base width adjacent flat inner surface 14. The ribs, whose sides may be inwardly curved, extend perpendicular to the valve bore, the bolt holes (21) being located so as to permit no other form of assembly. Fabric reinforcement may be included in the diaphragm. A stud 16 has its head 15 embedded in the diaphragm and engaged by the said fabric. The diaphragm is moulded to approximately its " closed " configuration but is adapted to be placed under tension when the valve is closed. |
