1,209,244. Glass fibres. OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS CORP. 20 March, 1968 [5 April, 1967; 7 Feb., 1968], No. 13539/68. Heading C1M. Glass fibres comprise from 50-68% SiO 2 , 12-32% Al 2 O 3 , the remainder being calcia and/or magnesia, the total of SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 being from 80-86%, all per cents being by weight. A number of examples are given. The compositions are fiberized by melting the batch ingredients, e.g. potter's flint, clay and dolomite in a furnace and flowing this melt through feeders in the form of multiple streams of glass that are attenuated into individual fibres; which are gathered together into a strand, which is wound upon a collet winder. The strands are combined into yarns by conventional twisting and plying techniques.
|
