Heading C2C. 6-Nitro-2-oximinohexanoic acid, its salts, and amides of the general formula where R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, may be prepared by treating 6-nitro-2 oximino-1-cyclohexen-l-ol with water and a base selected from: (a) alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides, or their salts having a dissociation constant less than 1.3 x 10<SP>-3</SP>, (b) ammonia, and primary and secondary amines and (c) tertiary amines, these reagents yielding respectively salts from (a), amides from (b) and salts from (c). The free acid is obtained by conventional procedures. Examples detail the preparation of the freee acid, its sodium and potassium salts and the amide as a dihydrate. 2 - Nitro - 6 - oximino - 1 - cyclohexen - 1 - ol is prepared from 2-nitrocyclohexanone by reaction with an alcoholate or sodium amide followed by reaction with an alkyl nitrite, or by reaction of 2-oximinooyclohexanone with an alkyl nitrite in the presence of an alcoholate. |
