[Also in Division B8] A machine for making boxes in flat form from a blank, Fig. 1, wherein the frictional grip on the blank as it is transported througn the machine varies according to the operational resistance which has to be overcome. The blank (Fig. 1) is conveyed through folding apparatus, Fig. 6, with the sides 1, 4 and their dependent flaps between endless belts and roller conveyers. The dependent flaps 10, 11 of the free sides 2, 3 are folded up by springs (A), Fig. 5 (not shown), or a spring-loaded wheel or rotatable cylinder, and folded against the sides by rollers B and steel arms D. The tab 15 is folded against the flap 11 by a spring C. Adhesive is then applied to the flap 10 and the blank is conveyed to another station for folding the flaps of the sides 1, 4 while the sides 2, 3 and their folded flaps are engaged between conveyer belts. The dependent flaps of sides 1, 4 are folded in a similar way to those of sides 2, 3 with the tab 15 being folded by an arm (M) Fig. 11 (not shown), and adhesive being similarly applied to flap 12. The blank now passes to a station where side 1 and its folded flaps are folded on to side 2, and its folded flaps, and similarly side 4 on to side 3, so that the tabs 15 adhere to respective flaps 10 and 12. Finally the tab 1A is adhered to the side 4. |
