A passive stabilizer for ships comprises a closed, elongated, generally rectangular, athwartships tank (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), in which is positioned a horizontal liquid transfer control member (18) which is spaced from the top (14), bottom (16) and ends (15) of the tank (12), the tank in use being partially filled with liquid to a static level above the bottom of the member (18). In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the liquid transfer control member (18) is a horizontally mounted flat plate having the same width as the tank. In another embodiment a vertical transverse member (20) is horizontally mounted at each end of the plate (18) across the width of the tank. |
