Light sandwich layers, preferably of highly porous plastics, or mineral wool, wood, paper or diatomaceous earth (Kieselguhr) are placed into mould with required dimensions and suitably secured at sides of mould or from above. Layers are preferably of cellular or honey-comb-like consistency and arranged at intervals of at least twice the width of the required final layer of lightweight/porous concrete. The cavity between each sandwich layer and both outermost cavities on sides of mould are then filled with the concrete material, which is left to harden to a suitable consistency when it can be cut by wires parallel to sandwich layers, resulting in several sandwich plates obtained from one casting process, each one of which has at least one sandwich-layer forming the core and is covered outside layers of concrete material. After cutting, the separated plates are transported into a suitable hardening vessel for steam-hardening at elevated temperatures and pressure.
