1,200,805. Vibratory rock and earth-cutting apparatus; rippers. A. G. BODINE. 7 Nov., 1967 [31 March, 1967], No. 50639/67. Headings E1F and E1G. An apparatus for cutting or breaking up earth and rock has an oscillator coupled to a mass 80 that can be vibrated at its resonant frequency when the oscillator is driven at an appropriate speed and means allowing of the transmission of only unidirectional pulses of energy from the vibrating mass to one or more cutter bits 85. The means, of which numerous specific embodiments are described, always involves an air space between the mass and the or each bit. The mass travels through this air space to impart a pulse of energy directly or indirectly to the bit or bits. The oscillator involves eccentrically mounted orbiting masses and the bits may be used as the digging means for ground-levelling machines, bulldozers, bowl scrapers and earth rippers. |
