发明名称 Verfahren zur Herstellung von chlorierten Polyaethylenwachsen
摘要 Polyethylene derivatives comprising hydrocarbon groups, carboxyl groups and chlorine atoms, having a molecular weight of 600 to 6000, and acid number of 4 to 25 and a chlorine content 5 to 75 weight per cent, may be prepared by chlorinating oxidized polyethylene waxes having a melt viscosity of 100 to 4000 cp. at 125 DEG C. and an acid number of 4 to 25. The waxes may be prepared by autooxidation and optionally hydrogenation of low molecular weight polyethylenes obtained by direct polymerization or by thermal degradation of high molecular weight polyethylenes. Chlorination may be effected in solution in an inert solvent, preferably carbon tetrachloride, and in the presence of ultra-violet light or an azo or peroxide free radical catalyst. Products having a chlorine content of 5 to 25 weight per cent are suitable for use as emulsifiable polishing waxes, those with a chlorine content of 25 to 50% as adhesives and those with a chlorine content of 50 to 75% as barrier coating resins, e.g. for application to polyolefin and other plastic films, paper, wood, metal, masonry and bricks. Examples A to M describe the preparation of oxidized polyethylene waxes and 1 to 6 the chlorination thereof. The chlorinated oxidized polyethylene waxes are (3) compounded with dibutyl phthalate and aromatic solvents and emulsified in an aqueous medium containing acrylic resin and a surface-active agent such as morpholine oleate to give floor polishing composition, and (5) melted with paraffin wax to give a paper coating composition.ALSO:Substrates may be coated with compositions comprising carboxyl and chlorine containing derivatives of polyethylene having a molecular weight of 600 to 6000, an acid number of 4 to 25 and a chlorine content of 5 to 75 weight per cent. Specified substrates are paper, wood, metals, natural fibres, masonry, bricks and plastics, e.g. in the form of films and other shaped articles. The derivatives may chlorination products of waxes obtained by oxidising and optionally hydrogenating low molecular weight polyethylenes obtained by direct polymerisation or by degradation of high molecular weight polyethylenes. In examples chlorinated oxidised polyethylene waxes are (3) compounded with dibutyl phthalate and aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, emulsified in an aqueous medium containing acrylic resin and a surface active agent and the resulting emulsion coated on vinyl asbestos floor tiles; and (5) melt blended with paraffin wax and the blend knife coated on stainless steel and paper.
