[Also in Division C2] Aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic isocyanates may be prepared by cationic telomerization of an unsaturated hydrocarbon with free isocyanic acid in the presence of a proton-free Lewis acid. Specified hydrocarbons are isobutylene, styrene, divinyl benzene, butadiene, hexadiene and cyclopentadiene. Specified initiators are aluminium trichloride, stannic chloride, titanium tetrachloride, boron trifluoride, aluminium tribromide and zinc chloride. Examples describe the preparation of isocyanates by telomerizing (I, II and IV) isobutylene, (III) styrene and (V and VI) butadiene. |
