The invention is concerned with a textile winding machine in which the speed of the winding spindle 1 and the traverse speed of the yarn guide 14 have a constant ratio but in which the rotational speed of the winding spindle is regulated to produce a predetermined rate of yarn travel. As illustrated this is accomplished by means of a control system 17 to 20 that is sensitive to the diameter of the package 2 and serves to vary the setting of core wheels 6, 7 on the drive motor 8, there being an intervening control rail 22 between said control system and the cone wheels. The control rail is replaceable by others of different shape. As the package grows the frame 17 rocks about the axis 11 to cause, the arm 20 to move the control rail 22 downwards. A rotating control member 26 acts periodically on the rail 22 to cause a member 24 to gradually displace a pivoted lever 35 serving to increase the spacing between the cone wheels 6, 7. At 'the same time the spacing between the cone wheels 3, 4 is decreased. At the start of each fresh winding operation, the pawl 41 is temporarily released from the rack 29 to permit a spring 28 to move the member 24 back towards the rotating control member 26. The control rail 22 is urged into the gap between the feeler head 23 and the control member 26 by its instrinsic weight or by a spring. |
