Precast reinforced concrete slabs 4 separated by sound absorbing material and resting on reinforced concrete coffer shaped beams 3 are joined in-situ by mortar 16 which fills the gap between adjacent slabs, mortar keying in longitudinal grooves in the slab edges and being prevented from flowing between the beams 3 or the slabs and beams by an inflated flexible longitudinal tube 14. The tube 14 may be deflated and removed from the join after hardening of the mortar. The joined slabs are levelled at the join by a filler 17 and are then covered with flooring material 18. The tubes uninflated are of flattened form and may have a longitudinal rib (19) Fig. 5 (not shown) to align the tube in the join and may have longitudinal reinforcing metal wires (21, 22). Protective plastic foil (10) Fig. 2 (not shown) covers the edges of the composite slab/ beam structure in transit. Hot air may be circulated in the gaps under the floor slabs.
