PURPOSE:To provide a thermal recording material having a thermal recording layer capable of performing the reversible recording and eraure of data composed of tranparency-opacity by heating and having a wide transparentizing temp. range and sufficient in the contrast being the ratio of the transparency in a transparent state and the opacity in an opaque state. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material has a thermal recording layer consisting of a resin matrix material, at least one kind of aliphatic carboxylic acid selected from aliphatic monocarboxylic acid and aliphatic dicarboxylic acid dispersed in the matrix material and an org. low-molecular compound having a polyoxyethylene chain dispersed in the matrix material.
