1,255,510. Filling valve. JAPAN GAS LIGHTER ASSOCIATION. 9 Oct., 1969 [9 Nov., 1968 (3)], No. 49682/69. Heading F4F. In a valve for filling a reservoir of a cigarette lighter with a liquefied gaseous fuel from a refill capsule, an outer stationary member 10, comprising a top cylindrical section 14 and a lower cylindrical section 24 having an opening 28 communicating with the reservoir 66, contains an inner movable member 12, which is made of a thermoplastic resin and which has a flattened end surface 37, a frusto-conical tip 38 with a furrow 39, an inwardly spaced cylindrical section 46 around which a sealing ring 48 is fitted, and a cylindrical base 54 which contains a spring 60 to bias the sealing ring 48 against a seat 35 when the valve is closed. The inner member 12 is pushed downwards against the spring 60 when a spout 23 of a refill capsule is inserted into a port defined by an inner cylindrical wall 21 of the top section 14 and pressed against the frusto-conical tip 38 allowing a stream 64 of liquefied gas to enter the reservoir 66 through the opening 28 and a mixture of air and gas to be vented along path 70. The top section 14 is screwed into the casing 18 of the cigarette lighter, a sealing ring 22 serving to prevent leakage of fuel, and the lower section 24, which has a flattened portion 30, is connected to the top section 14 by cold welding to produce a gas and air-tight joint from A to B. The side wall 56 of the cylindrical base 54 of the inner movable member 12 has a flattened portion 62 aligned with the flattened portion 30 of the lower section 24 to prevent relative rotation of the inner and outer members. |
