Hydrocarbon distillate fuels and lubricating oils are stabilized by the addition of at least one N - phenyl - N<SP>1</SP> - sec - alkyl - ortho - phenylenediamine and at least one N,N<SP>1</SP>-di-sec-alkylortho-phenylenediamine, in a weight ratio of from 9:1 to 1 The fuel may be gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil, fuel oil, or naphtha. The antioxidant mixture may be added to synthetic lubricating oils, e.g. dioctyl sebacate or dialkyl adipate. Many examples of amines are given which may be added to the base in a hydrocarbon solvent. The gasoline may contain tetraethyl lead. |
