A magazine 11 for a roll of belt-type staples 19 and comprising casing parts 13, 14 hinged together at 15 and accommodating the roll 19 on a pin 20 is provided, adjacent its dispensing opening, with a replaceable control spring unit 16 which is connected to the bottom of the magazine and which incorporates feed pawl mechanism 18, 23 and a resiliently yieldable control element 22 which prevents rearward movement of the feed -end of the roll into the magazine when the feed pawl mechanism 18, 23 is retracted over its rearward stroke. The pawls 18 are connected to a U-shaped spring member 21 which has arms 22 which are adapted to engage the belt 19 inwardly of feed finger portions 23 which co-operate with the pawls 18. When the pawls are pressed rearwardly the fingers 23 are also urged rearwardly over the belt 19 which is prevented from correspondingly moving rearwardly by the inclined spring arms 22. When the pressure is released from the pawls 18, the arms 22 allow 'the roll to be fed forward by the feed fingers 23 as the latter move forward to their initial position. |
