Yarn is fed to a multifeed cylinder and dial knitting machine either positively by two coacting feed members or with slip by one of the members only. In Fig. 5 the yarn is positively fed between an endless band 10 driven from the machine drive and a roller 22 which is free to rotate and is driven by the band 10. The roller 22 may be swung out of engagement with the band 10 and in this position the roller 22 is driven by an electric motor mounted inside the roller to feed the yarn with slip. The motor is switched on and off by the pivotting action. In further embodiments (not shown) the band 10 is replaced by a second roller driven from the machine and in these cases the second roller is pivoted out of contact with the roller which is driven by the electric motor causing the electric motor to be switched on and the yarn fed with slip. |
