1,134,977. Nickel base alloys; electrochemical pickling; electro-deposition of nickel. INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd. Oct. 3, 1967 [Oct. 17, 1966], No.44916/67. Headings C7A and C7B. Anodes for electrolytic Ni deposition, especially unbagged auxiliary anodes, comprise - C 0À1 - 0À35% Si 1 - 3% S not exceeding 0À015% Cu 0 - 0À13% Mg not exceeding 0À1% the balance, apart from unavoidable impurities, being nickel with the Si content being at least 3À4 times the C content and the Mg content being at least 2À5 times the S content. During manufacture of the anodes they are hot rolled at 1090-1200‹C., which causes partial surface decarburization, and then preferably quenched. The surface layer should be removed, preferably be electrochemical pickling in an HCl bath at 50-100 amps/ sq.ft. The electrolysis baths may be of the Watts, bright nickel, all-chloride or sulphamate types. In an example the primary soluble Ni anode is bagged and the auxiliary anode made according to the invention is unbagged. |
