Mixing apparatus suitable for mixing a particulate chlorinating agent with water comprises a hopper 22 and feed screw 24 for feeding the chlorinating agent into a chamber 14 through which water is passed with a swirling motion to prevent the chlorinating agent from settling in the chamber. The swirling motion is caused by introducing the water into the chamber at a sufficiently high pressure through pipe 19, optionally fitted with a nozzle. A baffle 74 is placed within the chamber to prevent repeated circulation of the liquid therein and to direct it to the outlet 68 of the chamber. The amount of chlorinating agent added may be regulated by means of a timer 28 and the level of liquid in the chamber may be controlled by means of a float valve.</p> |
