PURPOSE:To provide an economically excellent method for producing adipic acid by using 1,-2-dihydroxycyclohexane as a raw material. CONSTITUTION:In oxidizing 1,2-dihydroxycyclohexane in an aqueous solution of nitric acid containing a dissolved vanadium salt or vanadium salt and one or more of metals of group IB, group IIB, group IIIA, group IV, group VA, group VIB, group VIIB and group VIII, the reaction is carried out by introducing oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas to the aqueous solution of nitric acid to give adipic acid. |
