1,158,191. Screw conveyer. HENRY BALFOUR & CO. Ltd. 21 June, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 32576/66. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] In a heat exchanger in which a heating medium is passed through the hollow hub of a screw conveyer which conveys material to be heated, the conveyer is supported by a rotational bearing at one end only so that the conveyer may be increasingly deflected at increasing distances from the bearing to avoid binding. As illustrated, the screw is located in a U- section casing which has a jacket 20 through which steam or oil is circulated in a serpentine path. The screw is supported by a bearing at that end of the casing at which material enters and is driven by a motor at that end, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). A gas extraction hood 14 is provided on the casing. In the unloaded condition the screw flight 42 rests at its centre and at its free end on bars 60 attached to the inner wall of the casing. Blades 62 on the screw aid in the ejection of material from the casing. The hub 41 of the screw is hollow and has a central heating medium supply duct 43, the medium passing through apertures 54 into the space between the duct and the hub and being withdrawn at the opposite end of the screw. |
