To determine the concentration of hydrazine in a fuel-cell eletrolyte, it is circulated through a conductivity cell energized at a constant voltage (less than the decomposition voltage of water) and the resulting current is measured. One of the electrodes may be gold, nickel or carbon which are only slightly catalytically active with hydrazine, and hence have a constant polarization resistance. Automatic Control. Fig.2. A system for the automatic control of hydrazine concentration with compensation for fuel-cell-loadcurrent compensation is described. Electrolyte from reservoir 9 is circulated by pump 10 through measuring cell 8 and fuel-cell 7. Hydrazine from reservoir 11 is added by metering pump 12 according to the deviation of the conductivity cell signal from a desired value set in controller 17. The control signal is modified by the fuel-cell load current signal (I.R drop across resistor 23) added through amplifier 19. |
