Cellular polyurethanes are prepared by reacting, in a single stage process, an organic diisocyanate, a predominantly linear, hydroxyl terminated polyester, polyether or polycaprolactone having a M.W. between 1000 and 3000, a glycol and/or a triol, water and a catalyst for the reaction, in the presence of a filler having a grain size below 100 millimicrons, and moulding the reaction mixture. In specific examples a polycaprolactone of M.W. 2000 or a linear polyester of M.W. 2000 or a linear polyether of M.W. 2000 is mixed with 1,4-butanediol,hexanetriol, silicone oil, a solution of 93.9% castor oil and 6À1% citric acid, zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate, an aqueous amine catalyst solution, a mixture of bis(2 - methylaminoethyl) ether and dipropylene glycol and a filler, which in the case of the polycaprolactone and polyether based mixtures is a finely ground powdered asbestos and in the case of the polyester based mixture is finely powdered hydrogibbsite, and the mixtures reacted with a solution of diphenylmethane - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diisocyanate in a carbodiimide modified diphenylmethane - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diisocyanate. Other fillers may be ground shale, pumice powder or kieselguhr. |
