1,239,421. Balancing slides. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 25 June, 1968, No. 30324/68. Heading B3B. A machine tool comprises a saddle 1, a headstock 2 movable on the saddle, and a counterweight 6 connected to the saddle and headstock by cords, chains or ropes 4, 11, 5. The ropes 4 and 5 comprise first and second connecting means which connect with two first supporting members to support both the saddle and headstock. The rope 11 comprises a third connecting means which connects to a second supporting member which supports the headstock. The connecting means are attached to the counterweight in such positions, and the supporting members are so located that any alteration in the load on the third connecting means 11 caused by movement of the headstock leads to alterations in the loads in the first and second connecting means 4 and 5 so that the saddle and headstock do not tilt about an axis at right angles to the direction of movement of the headstock. The first supporting members comprise levers pivoted on the saddle and which carry rollers that roll along horizontal surfaces of the headstock as it slides horizontally. The second supporting member comprises a lever pivoted on the saddle and which carries a roller that rolls along an inclined surface on the headstock as it slides horizontally. As the headstock moves horizontally the inclined surface causes a variation in the load in the rope 11 which cause compensating variations in the ropes 4 and 5. These compensating variations are effective to compensate for any tilting that may take place as the centre of gravity shifts with the movement of the headstock. |
