1322737 Reinforced rubber articles DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 30 Nov 1970 [10 Dec 1969 6 Jan 1970] 60209/69 Heading B5N A reinforced rubber article, e.g. a conveyer belt, hose pipe or tyre comprises a layer of moisture-susceptible reinforcing material, e.g. a film, tape, mono- or multi-filaments, woven or non-woven fabrics of polyester, nylon or rayon surrounded by or adjacent to at least one layer of an elastomeric composition of relatively high moisture absorption capacity in comparison to the moisture absorption capacity of an overlying protective layer of a rubber having a low moisture absorption capacity, the rubber of low moisture absorption capacity containing less than 0À7% by weight of soaps and has a total ash content of less than 1À5% by weight. Suitable polymers are polyisoprene, polybutadiene, styrene/butadiene copolymers, butyl rubber or ethylene-propylene copolymers formed by solution or emulsion polymerization. The rubber of low moisture absorption capacity may be blended with other rubbers. The elastomeric composition may be natural rubber or an emulsion polymerized synthetic rubber. The ratio of the thicknesses of the elastomeric composition and the protective layer is preferably at most 1 : 1 and suitably 1 : 2 or less. The rubbers may contain anti-oxidants, cross-linking agents and may be wholly expanded. |
