[Also in Division B8] An air cushion vehicle 1 for operating over a fixed track 2 of rectangular cross-section comprises body structure having formed integrally therewith longitudinally-extending members 34 and 44 respectively formed with flanges 35, 45 arranged parallel in spaced relationship with matching flanges 32 and 42 on cushion pads 30, 40 respectively. The pads are apertured at 33, 43 so that air delivered by a fan to a chamber 7 within the body is discharged through apertures 33, 43 to form air curtains which generate and contain supporting and guiding cushions between the track 2 and pads 30 and 40 respectively. To provide a suspension capable of absorbing deflections imposed on the vehicle by irregularities in the track surfaces or external effects such as wind loading each pad 30, 40 is attached to adjacent structure by flexible U- section membranes 39, 49, free movement being damped by the effect of pressure air within chamber 7 acting within the concavities of the membranes. |
