A beam 10 is pressed against a presser roller 12 under constant pressure by a hydraulic cylinder 20. An electric motor 17 drives an electromagnetic clutch 18 which rotates a nut to move a piston 14 in a cylinder 13 so that hydraulic pressure is applied to the cylinder 20 and a cylinder 19 whose piston 21 acts against an adjustable spring 24. As the beam diameter increases the piston 27 of the cylinder 20 forces fluid to move the piston 21 against the action of the spring 24. A switch 29 is then closed to operate the clutch 18 to relieve pressure in the cylinder 13. |
