In the apparatus described air enters the bottom of the vertical chamber 1 via the pipe 2 and is mixed with steam from pipe 3 (which incorporates a thermoregulator 4 which actuates valve 6) with the assistance of baffles 9. The steam/sterilized air mixture leaves the top of the chamber via pipe 11 and passes through a cooling chamber 14 (cooled by fluid 15) where the steam condenses and is removed via the separator 16 from the air which exits via pipe 18.
