[Also in Divisions G2-G3] Novel sulphamido phenolic compounds of formulµ (in which X is -NR 2 R 3 or -NR 4 SO 2 Q; X is -N(R 4 )SO 2 Q; R 2-4 are each H, aryl or optionally substituted alkyl; Q is optionally substituted aryl or 1-8 C alkyl; X is H, -NR 2 R 3 or -N(R 4 )SO 2 Q; Z, Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>11</SP> are each H or -N(R 4 )SO 2 Q, at least 2 being the latter; R and R<SP>1</SP> are each H, alkyl, alkoxy, acyl, halogen, CN, SO 3 H, sulphoalkyl or carboxyalkyl. Examples describe the preparation of 2,4-bis-(benzenesulphonamido) phenol and 4-benzenesulphonamido - 2 - (p - toluenesulphonamido) phenol. Specified compounds include 2,4-bis-(p-toluenesulphonamido) phenol, 2,4-bis-(N-methyl-benzenesulphonamido) - 5 - sulphophenol, 2,5 - bis- (benzenesulphonamido) - 1 - naphthol, 2,4,5- tris-(benzenesulphonamido) - 1 - naphthol and 2,4 - bis - (methanesulphonamido) - 5 - methyl phenol. The compounds of Formulµ I and II are used as silver halide developing agents. |
